Avantis ("Sadie") lives with the Cikanek
family in northern Minnesota. Her owners had some family
health issues throughout much of her first year of life so we
volunteered to take her in for training. Sadie stayed with
us for one month and was exposed to pigeons, quail, and
pheasants. She was a close-working dog with a very intense
point. And I don't think we can stress enough how much she
liked to retrieve.
Near the end of her stay with us, we ran Sadie in a NAVHDA
Natural Ability test. She pointed well, swam well, and
tracked fine, but lacked the confidence for a really good
search. She ended up with 83 points and a Prize III (due
to low search and desire scores). Like most well-bred
gundogs, she has all of the tools, she just needs more exposure.
She is now back with her owners and as expected, they had a
great first hunting season with Sadie. |
