Lona is a very sweet girl whose primary purpose in life is to be a
good girl. She is a little on the soft side which makes her an
EXTREMELY well-mannered dog. You just have to say the word and
she will do something or stop doing something. She lives to
please. In the house, she often sits next to your leg (none of
our dogs are allowed on the furniture) and leans into you as you pet
her head. She is very affectionate and just leans more and
more as you continue petting her. She is also an incredibly
calm dog. Pretty much the only times you will ever see her get
excited are dinnertime, when she sees you start to pull out the
hunting gear, and when she's hunting.
Lona is an outstanding gundog in the field. She has
excelled at both upland and waterfowl hunting. We have to hike
in quite a ways to most of our duck spots and it takes a special dog
to heel quietly for a mile or two and then sit quietly in the blind
for hours while ducks are soaring overhead and geese are crashing
down. Perhaps Lona's favorite thing in the world is retrieving
waterfowl to hand. Once sent for a retrieve, she crashes into
the water and before you know, she is back. She sits quietly in
front of you while looking you in the eyes with a duck in her
mouth.
Lona is also a lot of fun to hunt behind in the field. She
is a larger-sized longhair so she is not quite as quick as our other longhairs. But she is very graceful and beautiful to watch
as she lopes through the field/forest. And when she locks up
on point, there is no doubt that a bird/rabbit is nearby.
She has an incredibly intense point with a nice high
tail.
One of Lona's best attributes is her looks. She is the
prettiest longhair that we have ever seen in person. She just
has a really nice build with nice long legs, a pretty head, and an
excellent coat. She has the perfect amount of feathering and
her coat is thick and weather-resistant. You can't ask for
more than a good looking dog who does her job well :-) |
